Look at how this jacket fits across the shoulders and upper arm. Most men (including me) wear badly-fitting jackets. The fabric sags over the shoulders and bellies out across the back. The sleeves are often too long. Off-the-peg clothes are made to fit an average size; mathematically few of us are that ideal shape. I suspect that we tend to select jackets that are too large for us. If you can't afford bespoke, try a size smaller than usual and see if that improves the fit, or ask a tailor to make some alterations.
There's no doubt that well-fitting jacket gives a great sense of style.

Yes, it is a very nice jacket. Nice shape, and has a cool and casual look about it, perfect for the season; I attribute that to the fabric (I too think perhaps a linen-silk blend) and the colour. I have a linen suit that colour as well as a very soft leather blazer in a slightly darker shade, and can attest that that colour is very versatile. I really like the simple colour combo of the ensemble.
ReplyDeleteBeing taller, I tend to prefer my jackets longer, but I've started being adventurous with slightly shorter ones lately.
If I were ever asked to offer one piece of advice on dressing, it would be to make sure that one's clothes fit properly, so I completely agree with your comments in that respect.
It doesn't matter what one's size or shape is (few of us are ever the body image we think we are), but wearing clothes the proper size and fit can make the world of difference to one's deportment. A sharp eye will immediately notice well fitting, proportionate clothes over any other dress mistakes, and your comfort will be an additional reward to the admiring looks.
I also really like the pants in the picture. Wonder where they're from. Any idea how to find out ?
I don't know where the trousers/ pants are from - maybe bespoke? Thanks for the comments. Best wishes, GF.
DeleteThanks GF.
DeleteI found out from reading the Sartorialist comments that the trousers are from 'Entre Amis' and the jacket from 'Lardini' both small Italian design houses. A visit to their websites didn't turn up any sign of the exact patterned fabric trousers (some similar solid coloured ones though), but the jacket was there and seemed to be part of a suit, or at least had matching trousers. It didn't (to my eye anyway) look anywhere as nice on their site as it does as worn in the picture you posted.
I wouldn't have remotely considered an online purchase just from the Lardini site display, which doesn't feature models or mannequins to show how the clothes hang.
I think both fashion houses owe the model and photographer big time ! :)
