Try unusual combinations before you reject them; they may unexpectedly be successful. Here the effect is set off by a muted-pink pocket square. Business gent with a twist!
And at popular request - if this colour combination is good enough for the King of Cool (in Bullitt) it's good enough for me.....
Reminds me - in the best way - of rich chocolate in Cadbury's traditional livery.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree. The pastel blue trousers with welted brown brogues look is a classic example(recent Times article is a fine supporter of this too.) Wear- on!!!
ReplyDeleteI think the blue/brown combination looks good...I like the knitted tie; very stylish.
ReplyDeletePopped across to your blog via Josephine @ Chic at any age...great to see a gentleman writing a style blog.

Hallo Catherine and many thanks for visiting. I love your blog - great style and taste and some stunning and beautifully-dressed older women! GF
DeleteI love blue and brown together. It's almost a signature combination for me for all the years I've been wearing it, and I try to be adventurous with it as much as I can - from incorporating patterned prints of the two colours together, to solid tone-on-tone of one against the other. (A favourite accessory is a milk chocolate coloured raw silk tie with a slight coppery sheen that compliments any blue dress shirt or suit I wear it with. I paid less than $10.00 for it about 20 years ago and it still sees me through a business day, or paired with indigo jeans and a blazer for travelling.)
ReplyDeleteHowever, much as I know and love blue as my favourite colour (I wonder if being born under Virgo has anything to do with that), I love brown with other colours. My two current favs are brown with pink (funny, I noticed the pocket square paired with the brown tie first before looking at the suit in the first pic), and multiple shades/tones of brown with grey.
PS I wonder if that's an Ozwald Boateng suit in the first picture.
Pulled off well with thought, brown and blue is style heaven, and always has been - take a look at Steve Mcqueen in the iconic brown jacket over navy polo neck jumper in Bullitt from 1968. One of my style inspirations for the autumn.
ReplyDeleteNow that you've mentioned it I'll have to add a picture of this combination to my post - The King of Cool. GF
DeleteRaiding the Cool archives a little more, an original Baracuta Harrington jacket in natural or dark blue (as worn by McQueen when glider flying in The Thomas Crown Affair if I remember correctly)is another timeless classic that gets my vote.
