Is it time for the return of the cravat?

Tuesday, 20 March 2012

I can just remember my father wearing cravats in the sixties - always silk and always paisley pattern. They kept his neck warm and protected his shirt collar from the grime; what's not to like?

Maybe it's time for the return of the cravat. They can be picked up for next to nothing a eBay at the moment. I'm tempted to try and will report back in due course.

Here's a link to a video on how to tie a cravat How To Tie A Cravat (Style For Men)

    Hello Dave,

yes it certainly is time for the return of the cravat. I was thinking along similar lines recently during the cold snap. I had become used to wearing a lambswool scarf whilst pottering around the house (stop laughing!) and it occurred to me that this was exactly the problem a cravat was designed to solve. Haven't done anything about it yet though but will seek out a few before Autumn returns.

    Cheers

At sixty five, I am not afraid to try anything. Living in a "hipster" neighborhood in San Diego -yes among the palms and passive weather-there is a hipster (ish) hood- I've started to wear cravats. I get away with it because I try to keep it subtle. It is not always apparent on first glance that I'm wearing one but clearly I am. I find those cravets worn in a big puff to be a little to "look at me". I can get away with almost any twist on fashion as long as it is subtle and it fits.

Thank you Lew Klein - I agree they look best if unobtrusive - and good for you for wearing them! GF.
