These hand-knitted socks were worn by British biologist and photographer, George Rayner, in Antarctica between 1927 and 1939 (I hope he took them off occasionally during that time).

And what can be found now in Fair Isle style?

Can I just say 'Thankyou' for your blog . I very rarely comment on blogs as I don't have anything madly original to say but your efforts do not go unnoticed . My grey fox husband doesn't even realise the effect you have on his wardrobe but he loves his new slim fit tweed jacket etc . It's an uphill struggle mind , he won't buy scarves as he says he already has one ! I tell him , the best accessory a woman can have is a well dressed man . Thanks again- Wendy
ReplyDeleteI echo Wendy.
ReplyDeleteMay I add that I wished there was the same for women in the blogosphere.
Style with a twist instead of evanescent day-flies.
Thank you for your generous comments which make me want to blog forever. I'm really interested to hear about others' searches for style (and their partners' and friends' efforts on their behalf).
ReplyDeleteAs must be obvious, I have no fashion background so, in my ignorance, take a different approach to most, who generally seem to have some history in the fashion world.

So maybe you could write an occasionaly post for women if anything catches your eye?
ReplyDeleteMyself am a female Grey Fox and appreciated your posts about adding silver or colour very much!
Oh, and I apologize for not being perfect in your language. I'm from Munich in Bavaria.
Hi Barbara, your English is perfect. I know some women read the blog for ideas for their partners and I could write the occasional piece for them, but I'm no expert. Have you tried That's Not My Age, link on the right of this page? That's a very readable blog for older women.
DeleteThank you for visiting and commenting. If you or anyone else would like to contribute a guest post to add your thoughts I'd be happy to hear from you.
