Remembrance Day on Great Gable

Monday, 12 November 2012

Remembrance Day fell on Sunday this year and, as they do every year, The Fell and Rock Climbing Club held a ceremony to commemorate the members of the club who have fallen in war. A memorial plaque was placed at the summit of Great Gable (899m, 2949ft) in 1924.

Every year hundreds of all ages climb this beautiful mountain in Cumbria, England, to take part in a simple two minutes silence. In the top picture, taken at about 2500ft, a hill farmer and his dogs (top) work sheep (possibly bringing them down for the winter) as walkers climb Great Gable to take part in the ceremony.
