A man in search of style is always looking for sartorial influences. The Return of the Rudeboy, an exhibition recording the return of the rudeboy subculture, provides possible inspiration. Originating in sixties Kingston, Jamaica, the rudeboys had links to West Indian music and street culture and wore sharp suits and pork pie hats. Sort of West Indian mods maybe?.
Over 60 individuals have been photographed for the exhibition, which documents not only the roots of the Rudeboy and the definition of the term, but also how the phenomenon has re-emerged within the 21st century.
This is an exhibition not to miss and I'm looking forward to dropping in next week when London Collections:Men will be taking place in central London.
The exhibition is at Somerset House, London between 13 June and 25 August 2014. For more information see The Return of the Rudeboy website here.
