Friday Favourites: Archer & Peyton socks, Spoke trousers

Thursday, 19 March 2015

Archer & Peyton socks

I've mentioned Archer & Peyton before. Produced in Italy in a wide range of colours and designs, they are well-made and comfortable and among my favourites.

Blue socks

Contact Archer & Peyton for more information and to buy.

Spoke

An update on another brand I've mentioned before. Spoke have returned their manufacture to the UK. Their speciality is not only matching size to waist and leg but also to build/body shape.

Bulletproof Chinos - navy blue

I've tried a pair of their 'Bulletproof' chinos which fit perfectly. The fabric, quality and cut are very good. Highly-recommended from Spoke.

While I am sure Spoke make wonderful things I cannot possibly judge. Waiting two weeks now since my order and still no sign of it. They do not respond quickly to questions, last time took five days to get back to me, two days and counting for my last request. Maybe a victim of too much publicity which has created demand that far outstrips their capabilities.

I was an early customer of theirs, but all three have now developed holes in the pockets due to the flimsy material they initially used in the lining. First repair was done very poorly, so the side seams in the trousers were left open. Sent in again, and now the pockets are so shallow that they are useless.
To be fair, they did send one new pair out as a good-will gesture - but they're made in Portugal so you may want to review their made-in-Britain status?
I'm afraid I have the same problem as MacSmith with regard to communication.

Thanks Gavin, I'll certainly draw their attention to your comments. I know some are now made in England again after a spell back in Portugal.

Helo Folks - sorry it has taken us a while to spot this comment string (and thanks to GF for drawing our attention)

@MacSmith - I think we've identified you in our records, and I'm very glad to learn that we sorted things out in the end. You're right, we are running as fast as we can to keep up - but we've expanded the team, and response times are down to hours now. Thanks for your patience back in the Spring

@Gavin - really sorry to hear about continuing problems. We'll contact you offline to follow up - but worth mentioning that we changed our pocketing supplier in May 2014. We now prize durability over almost everything else in those front pockets - the problems you had were limited to a small batch, and really should be a thing of the past. We'll be in touch.

Finally - manufacturing. As Grey Fox has commented, we make trousers in both England and Portugal - and if you'd like to know where any particular colour or batch have been made, we're always happy to provide the detail. I'd love to explain how and why we choose different factories in different countries - but that's a long, involved story. We're planning a blog post about it soon ...

Sorry for the delay in replying. Thanks to Spoke for responding. They've now resolved the issue very satisfactorily, and I'm happy to confirm that the new design of trouser is even better than the original - love the addition of the hidden key/coin pocket. Looking forward to further purchases from Spoke in the future.
