I've been meaning to get hold of a pair of these Cheaney x Cherchbi Herdwyck tweed brogues for weeks. The chance came recently when I borrowed a pair for a photoshoot. Cheaney manufacture in Desborough, Northamptonshire and the Avon is a classic country brogue available with leather or rubber soles. This version includes tweed made by Cherchbi from my favourite sheep, the hardy Herdwick of the English Lake District.
Adam Atkinson uses the wool of the Herdwick for his Cherchbi bag collection and here it's used for this stylish shoe collaboration with Cheaney. I tried them briefly for the photoshoot but wasn't able to walk any distance in them as they had to be returned in as new condition. However, the waterproof tweed was comfortable and flexible.

Ideal worn with jeans or a tweed suit, the Cheaney Avon brogue with Herdwyck No.10 tweed costs£325 from Cheaney Shoes of Northampton. See also Cherchbi for more products made from Cherchbi Herdwyck tweed.

Have you taken leave of your senses GF? these are appauling
ReplyDeleteThanks Anon, I hope not!
ReplyDeleteI think appalling is a bit harsh. They are rather nice in the flesh. The great thing about menswear now is that there is something for everyone. We wouldn't all want to be wearing the same (unless we were in the Army of course). I rather like the recent trend for tweed on brogues.

Grey Fox
ReplyDeleteAppauling!- No. I agree with you Grey Fox but "rather nice" is not strong enough. This is just another example of how personal tastes differ between all us sartorial buffs. I too like the trend for tweed on brogues but have to say from the Cherchbi website their grey only tweed is not the most exciting colour pallet I have come across. I like the Harris tweed colourful examples used by the likes of Barker etc.
That said I would have to add that I would tend to wear this type of brogue, or any spectator for that matter, with a plain single coloured trouser and not a patterned pair. (There we go - personal taste again)
One of the interesting and scintillating things about your blog is the fact that it does throw up a range of diverse opinions - keep it coming!
Best regards,
Snapper
Thanks as ever snapper - it's important to keep pushing the boundaries, no matter what age you are. Otherwise one runs the risk of becoming a boring old fellow.

Just a quick correction for you, Cheaney are actually from Desborough in Northamptonshire, not Northampton. I grew up there so I should know ;)
ReplyDeleteOops. Thanks Barry, it had slipped my mind, so thanks for that.
