Patrick Grant's Community Clothing has a very simple mission; to achieve viable clothing manufacture in the UK by ensuring that the peaks and troughs of demand are levelled out by filling the quiet gaps in factories around Britain with the making of affordable clothes. A Kickstarter campaign is seeking £75000 to get the project started. Patrick Grant explains the problem and its solution in this video:
The Kickstarter campaign offers supporters some wonderful British-made benefits.Tapping into Britain's skills and heritage Community Clothing offers, for example, a high quality pair of British-made jeans for £49. I've made the pledge and look forward to my pair. There are other garments on offer to support the Kickstarter campaign for equally good prices.
Community Clothing Harrington jacket, from £79, denims from £49, raincoat from £119. |
I'm intrigued by the use of the utility clothing label CC. It's taken from the the CC41 label used on wartime clothing and, I suppose, implies a utilitarian response to an emergency situation. An interesting choice and an attractive design.
By pledging you not only get access to the best of British manufacture, you support an exciting project to continue the wonderful recovery of UK manufacture that I've been recording on this blog over the last four years.

I was pleased to support this Kick from the US. Looking forward to my jeans.
ReplyDeleteWas looking for a Harrington so job done! I think this one will go down to the wire as it's not as sexy as some offers, yet has greater potential.
