A dark blue suit is a dark blue suit, but it's an adaptable garment. It seems a shame to just use it for work, weddings and funerals when you can really make it work for its living in a wide variety of ways. With the help of Hawes & Curtis I've styled a suit from their store in Jermyn Street in London to suggest how you can rescue yours from underuse.
The suit is made from dark indigo blue hopsack Super 120S wool cloth; slim cut and comfortable, it fitted off the peg with minor alterations, including adding turn-ups to the trousers. Remember, you don't have to wear yours as a suit all the time, it is two separate garments after all. The images below are to give you some ideas and inspiration:

All* the clothes and accessories are from the large Hawes & Curtis ranges of formal and informal wear and accessories. I'm very grateful to them for sponsoring this post and providing a photographer.
*Apart from the brown brogues and watch, which are mine.
This is an excellent post. I appreciate your showing the adaptability of a traditional blue suit, and the different combinations are well thought out. Thank you for sharing this information. Your blog and Instagram feed are inspiring.
ReplyDeleteI'm back on my hobby horse again. You say that the suit is slim cut. You're lucky in being so slim, but the majority of older men have, at the very least, a paunch. Slim cut isn't for us. It's time that the pendulum swung back to more generously fitting clothes.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks, Beeman - they have different cuts for different shapes - maybe give them a ring to check.

Great post indeed, love the blog GF. I am always in search of nice, slim stylish chinos and I like the ones you are wearing in the last two pics. Mind sharing where I might find a pair?
ReplyDeleteThanks from the U.S.
Very nice vintage Explorer 1016 in Pic nbr one!
ReplyDeleteLooks great, and it's always a good reminder we can wear suits as separates. Love the cuff links. Are they also Hawes and Curtis? I can't find it on their site.
