Colour combinations 4 - woodland colours

Sunday, 11 March 2012

Walking the dog in the park I took some pictures of the remarkable colours. The wood is very much as it was in Autumn, but the warm Spring sunshine is bringing it alive with birds and squirrels. The trees are covered in an almost luminous green lichen and the natural greys, creams, greens, yellows and browns in assorted textures may provide inspiration for the wardrobe of a man of style.

And here's how these colour influences might be used -

    Hello, Grey Fox -
You might find interesting ideas at this website -

    thebkcircus.com

Particulary in the "LookBook." It's meant for young urban males, but I find it interesting with possibilities for the mature man.

There's an article about Ouigi Theodore in the 1/4/11 edition of the NY Times.

What a fascinating and stylish site - thanks for that. As you say, much is for younger males (American college and street style), but there are enough classics like double-breasted jackets (in the lookbook, but I can't see any for sale in the shop), brogues, chinos, corduroy trousers (pants), Harris tweed scarves and hats and cardigans to suit the older man. And I especially like the sweeping line and color in the top photo.

When working with colors like lichen green, soft gray, cream, light green, yellow, and brown, try to have a combination of light and dark shades of those colors. Try to introduced darker tones through shoes, belt and tie to anchor the light tones. Dark brown, or a rusty red/brown for shoes would be fine. Texture is also important for visual interest when working with monochromatic colors. Otherwise the look will be blah.
