Italian window shopping

Monday, 3 September 2012

One of the fascinating things about Italy is that even the smallest towns contain stylish shops selling the highest quality clothes and food. The window dressing may not be to the highest standards, but quality goods will shine through the drabbest window display, helped by Italian verve and colour. I bought one of the pocket squares and a pair of Missoni socks (more accurately, the socks were bought for me and will appear in my stocking at Christmas).

What ? You didn't buy anything from that cycle outfit shop ? :)
In fact, I prefer shopping in these kind of nondescript stores and coming away with quality gems hidden in dim corners. The unexpected discoveries suddenly makes them 'must-haves', don't you think ? Perhaps it's a clever sales strategy. Add a markdown to the already inflated price and it becomes irresistible.

Nice pics. I'd have found it hard to resist many of the things you've shown, especially the Vespa (...someday), the pug and the cheese.

The cycle shop was surprisingly expensive. The region produces silk products and the ties and pocket squares are superb - and good value. GF

Beautiful, and an inspiration - I'm hoping to make a road trip to Northern Italy in the next year or two to experience just this, either in an Alfa Romeo (which I don't yet own) or a Vespa (which I do). Needless to say it'll be a stylish trip...

As you say, an inspiration - I wish I could analyse what makes Italian style so successful - style becomes part of their lives without looking contrived.

Enjoy the trip - the Alfa sounds good, the Two Greedy Italians travelled round Italy in some lovely classics for their cookery series (see my earlier post). GF.
