I'm going to take a couple of days off from updating the blog to have a think about other things. Please dig around the 300 plus older posts and enjoy yourself in my temporary absence.
Give my regards to Montserrat. I was there less than a week before the (supposedly) extinct volcano decided it wasn't extinct after all and erupted. I looked down the crater and smelled the sulphur . . .
Wonderful place, super-friendly people, check out the Flamboyant trees, too bad they need a tropical climate to grow.
I was working on a development loan, after the volcano erupted the borrower called and asked how his loan was going. My answer was that we can't get insurance because you seem to have an active volcano in your back yard, sir, and the deal is off . . .
One of my favorite places in the Caribbean, do enjoy your vacation!
The photo was taken some years ago, when the airport was still being rebuilt. The damage was horrendous, but, as you say, lovely strong people and a beautiful place.
