The Hackett Spring Summer Collection

Sunday, 3 March 2013

With Spring on the horizon, here's a glimpse at the Hackett Spring/Summer collection.

It's good to see an older model in this video. From much menswear fashion advertising you'd think that only the young are expected to buy and wear clothes.

    Hi
I have been following your blog for a while now and you seem to bemoan the lack of older models on the catwalk on a regular basis.

You maybe need to look a little harder. The Prada AW12/13 show featured several older models, ending with Gary Oldman(54), Tim Roth(51), Adrian Brody(39) and Willem Dafoe(57) all looking as good as the professional models.

They repeated the act (minus the Hollywood stars) for their AW13/14 show.

I know you are looking for British products but style cannot always be limited by boundaries.

The Prada AW12/13 show consisted mainly of impeccable tailoring, and roll neck jumpers worn underneath shirts. Why do you think everyone has been wearing roll necks lately? You can buy a beautiful fine merino wool number from John Smedley, it doesn't have to be from Prada. And what man of a certain age does not remember wearing a roll neck jumper under a patterned butterfly collar shirt in the 70's? Nostalgia and style in one - that has to be a win win.

The AW13/14 show had some beautiful coats with velvet collars, not a million miles removed from a covert coat from Cordings with cloth made in England by Fox Brothers.

I believe we can take elements of high fashion from giants such as Prada and adapt them to fit our personal style.

I am 52 and have had a lifelong obsession with clothes and style which is showing no signs of abating with age.

I look forward to more from you.

Thank you Dave. I've not claimed that there is a complete absence of older models. Their presence at Prada supports their rarity elsewhere.

I agree that we can adapt what we like around us, rather than rely on high (expensive) fashions.

It's good to hear from you with your thoughts - many thanks.

    GF.
