I''ll never look as good as this in a white shirt |
We think of a white shirt as being for formal wear with a suit - it is, after all, the uniform of every US politician and businessman. Here in the UK the coloured shirt is used more frequently for business use. But in the white shirt we have a plain, classic piece that works well in a surprising number of situations, from jeans or shorts, to pinstripes.
This shirt was from Austin Reed and I like it because it was cut well around the shoulders and is reasonably slim-fitting. I don't like shirts which balloon out around you. It's also pure cotton and easy-iron (it's described as non-iron, but I've never had a shirt that comes out of the wash ready-ironed, so I always take that with a pinch of salt).
Truly, the white shirt is so effortlessly elegant. A simple way for a man to look polished - as you do in both ensembles.
ReplyDeleteI must admit that I rarely if ever wear white shirts. I have a wide range of blue and grey shirts in every hue imaginable. They are simply a lot smarter with suits and nothing that is said or posted here will change my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI once read that white work shirts should only be worn by airline pilots......which has led me to collect blue shirts in plain and stripes.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I occasionally wear one for work much like the bottom picture, or when I pair a navy suit with a tie that wouldn't look quite right with a blue shirt.
Grey Fox, where are those suave glasses from? :)
ReplyDeleteI love the word 'suave'.
ReplyDeleteThey're Ray Ban Wayfarer II - a slight variation on the traditional Wayfarer.
Thank you
GF.
You look fantastic! Love the Coat. It fits pretty good. Love your whole look.
ReplyDeleteI could not imagine life without a white shirt. The LBD is such a good comparison - rarely if ever has white shirt not served me well and made me feel like I look a million even when I know I should be giving back change from a dollar
