Swift & Co: bringing back the manufacture of stylish footwear to Lancashire

Wednesday, 26 August 2015

I came across Swift & Co at Best of Britannia earlier this summer. Based in Burnley, Lancashire, Swift has been a family business for some generations and Richard Swift has set out to bring back footwear manufacture to East Lancashire. In this video, he tells us more about his shoes.

Technology And Tradition - An Introduction To Swift

They look well-made and lightweight with soft uppers and a comfortable technical sole and heel. As the image of their suede boots below shows (this is one of several styles available), they are also very stylish. I plan to try out a pair soon and will report back then.

Richard will be starting a Kickstarter campaign soon and I'll tell you more about that and the brand when that happens. Meanwhile, click here to go to the Swift & Co website.

Great to see you explicitly promoting British manafacturing. But are you also backing brands like Private White that state they require skilled migrants to grow? I hope so and if you do please acknowledge the politics inherent in your blog.

    Grey Fox,

Thank you for publishing this article, the video was very informative and interesting too. The technology used in their sole and insole is, I guess, quite revolutionary. Personally I don't like the external appearance of the sole, a bit like Tricker shoes (handsome uppers on ugly soles). Of course I realise it is the performance and comfort of the sole they have gone for and not the appearance.

Their web site does not give views or prices of a complete range of shoes.

    Best regards,
    Snapper

Great post. I love the way you always look to British tradition in your clothing and accessories!

Very interesting video clip. Any idea of the price of the footwear?

Thanks all - prices around £145 to £150 for shoes and abut £20 more for the boots.

Thanks Anonymous - I'm sorry but I'm not clear about the issue you're asking me to clarify - this is a men's style blog, not a political one but I'm happy to try to answer a direct and clear question if you will ask it.

I wouldn't have bothered to defend such am ambiguous post.
It's clear you like myself have a lean towards the purchase and promotion of British Made products but all men of style own something of an international source.
