Shetland jumpers in all flavours from Leith - made on the Shetland Isles

Friday, 2 January 2015

I love Shetland jumpers. They're plain and simple, as the best-made and designed things are. I like their texture and mix of colours. Like tweed, when inspected closely, Shetland wool displays a rainbow of colours. These from Leith grabbed my attention, with their wide range of subtle and original hues.

These are genuine Shetland jumpers; made on the Isles from Shetland wool from the Jamiesons Mill. A light brushing gives a relaxed and soft texture. Wear with jeans or chinos or under a jacket for more formal look. From Leith Clothing. Price £75.

I am SO ordering one of these. A few years ago I wanted to buy just a simple, crew neck jumper in pure wool, and I happened to be in Sterling. I went to EVERY shop in town and did not find a SINGLE jumper that was pure wool...and that includes the tourist places that sell the aran knits. Modern high street knitwear is a travesty, so this is a revelation. That mustard colour is a yes for me.

How is the fit? Does it trend towards baggy or slim? My only concern was that their smallest size was a 38, which is usually a medium.

Just received the last (for now) remaining size 1 (38) in any of the colours. I am a 39" chest but prefer a slimmer fitting sweater. The fit was absolutely fine in the chest but I would advise anyone thinking of ordering when the re-stocks come in that the size 1 would probably be rather short for a taller man (I'm 6'1"). I'm disappointed to have to return mine as it's a lovely sweater.
