N. Peal's knitwear has received much coverage for the part it plays in the new James Bond Film, Spectre. Whatever you think of this (and I love the association) it can only emphasise the brand's position as a supplier of exceptional quality knitwear. Their Burlington Arcade shop, off London's Piccadilly, opened in 1936 and is still there. Its products have been worn by many famous names, real and fictional. The cashmere comes from the steppes of Mongolia where the climactic conditions in which the goats live produce a product of extreme softness, warmth and luxury.

The Fumo grey Mongolian cashmere roll neck (below) is one of the most desirable jumpers I've ever worn. Supremely soft, warm and lightweight yet luxurious, it was designed specifically for Daniel Craig as James Bond in Spectre.
The charcoal mock turtle neck sweater which I wear in the image at the top of this post (and also below with Daniel Craig in my version of the Spectre film poster) is a blend of cashmere and silk worsted yarn. Lightweight, soft and warm, this is a sweater for a man of action. Wear it under a blazer or tweed coat.

Finally, the N. Peal round neck one-ply cashmere sweater in Blue Wave, as worn by James Bond in the previous film, Skyfall. It's crafted from the finest 100% Mongolian Cashmere.

ReplyDeleteHave passed their shop many times when walking through Burlington Arcade but never bought anything. Perhaps your post will change my mind as the items on the website are very appealing. Will mention Grey Fox when buying.
However, two issues regarding jumpers.
1. Roll necks / polo necks. Not very keen on these. Haven't owned one for decades. Problem is they are too inflexible. Walk to the pub on a cold winters evening and they are fine, enter the warm pub and you soon are sweating like the proverbial pig.
2. The round neck looks good but would not wear with a tie but am willing to be convinced otherwise.

Hi,
ReplyDeleteNice feature, but the link at end is not working it appears.
All the best,
Mike
Many thanks Mike - it works for me - maybe you have an ad blocker? Do let me know if you continue to have problems.
ReplyDeleteThanks also Robert - very fine cashmere seems to be warm when needed but cooler when warm.

Hi Grey Fox,
ReplyDeleteNice write up, it brought a smile to my face. I like roll necks, as you say the thinner ones are ideal for wearing under a blazer or indeed under a thicker V neck jumper. I'll pay Peal's site a visit.
Regards
David
Smashing piece David - cracking knitwear also. Does Bond need a nice bridle leather belt I wonder?
ReplyDeleteKeep 'em coming!

Tim Hardy
The Bond-style turtleneck looks great, both on Bond and Mr Fox. I can see how you might not be very comfortable with a gun holsted, David, so maybe I can offer up a Nielsen as a similar, though quite different option? :-)
