Savile Row Company Made to Measure Shirts

Wednesday, 15 November 2017

The Savile Row Company is a third generation family business offering bespoke and made to measure shirt services from their store in London's Savile Row. However, they also offer affordable made to measure shirts online and I've had the chance to try that service.

The online service involves entering some basic measurements online, selecting a cloth and the style of shirt, including fit and details of placket, cuff, collar, pocket, buttons, trim and monogramming. I found all this easy to enter and the shirt arrived promptly, fitted well and, for £75, not much more than the price of a good of-the-peg shirt, this represented excellent value.

The selection of cloths is on the safe side, so the more adventurous of you may want a wider choice and, indeed, the company is looking to do this soon. Having said that, I loved the slim pink stripe I selected and few of you will fail to find a choice you like. Highly recommended. See Savile Row Company.

I have had MTM shirts via their shop at 40 Savile Row for over 10 years. When I stopped working in the City I stopped for a while but got fed up with the bad fit in RTW and last year went back to them and ordered a pile of casual shirts. Price around £200 each depending on volume.

The real differentiator is Max who runs the shop. The man is a star. He has no qualms at all about insisting that he gets the factory to remake a shirt if he feels it doesn't look right. My last batch went through various iterations (some errors from them, admittedly, but also changes in sleeve width, length etc) and he is not happy until you're happy - or, actually, even after you are happy he will still encourage you to let him tweak somethjng he thinks could be better.

He is still there - I saw him through the window last night on the way to the Permanent Style pop up launch party.

Sounds like a great brand to try - it's important finding clothing brands that care about the quality of their products. It's also well-worth investing in tailored and handmade items such as these shirts or a leather belt - all these pieces will help create a capsule wardrobe and can save you money in the long run.

Thank you all. At the price I don't believe they are made in the UK.
