Marks & Spencer Best of British - Grey Fox tries it out

Friday, 25 October 2013

Earlier this week I posted an article on The Guardian Fashion Blogs Network in which I was photographed wearing M&S's Best of British collection. When I first approached them with the idea, M&S had little idea how I would use the images or what I would say. But they agreed without seeking reassurances. They provided clothes, location, photographer and even a stylist - and it was a bit of fun.

Regulars here will know that one of my themes is the failure of the fashion industry to use older models in marketing campaigns. Although M&S are an exception (think of Twiggy and the recent campaign which included Dame Helen Mirren, Tracy Emin and others) they chose to use a young model (Oliver Cheshire) to sell Best of British. I felt that such a high quality, classic yet modern, collection should be tried on an older man. I'd like to thank the superb photographer, Keir Harris, who did much to put me at ease and took such excellent images.

That's cool man. How was the lambswool jumper? It's a piece I'm considering picking up.

The Fair Isle jumper (top) is beautiful, as is the cashmere (shown as yellow here, also in other colours).

I think M & S are missing a trick here GF. The collection looks wonderful on an older man.

Thank you, Jane - maybe we can persuade others to do likewise..

I stumbled across the collection at Marble Arch. It is undoubtebley a woberful collection but as I am not in need of yet another suit or top coat I purchased the shawl neck jumper which is fantastic. I have to say I wish that M and s regularly stocked such lines although not cheap the entire range is truly very good value for money. I can envisage me wearing my new jumper for many many years.

    Wondeful! :-)

I've only discovered this range a few weeks ago when Gary Barlow wore a suit, shoes & tie on Xfactor. I've just found a photo of you wearing the exact same outfit! :-)

It's the last photo on this page:

I did pop along to my local Marks & Spencer to have a look a few weeks ago but they don't stock it. I also tried their store near Wilmslow Cheshire and they didn't stock it either. I was advised it is in Marble Arch or by special order. Shame there's no where closer. Still, it looks great and I did find some lovely alternatives in store at a much lower price :-)

Please share some more pics. Thanks Roger
