XO Grey Fox

I'm 60 today

Sunday, 4 January 2015

I find it impossible to believe and even did the maths again to check, but there's no doubt about it, I'm 60 years old today. If you're thinking that I'm too old to write about men's style and that you'll never visit Grey Fox again, ponder this. It seems yesterday that I left school, went to university, qualified as a lawyer, married, had children and the children left home. Life passes by very fast. Unless you're older than me, you'll very soon find yourself wondering at the passing years just as I am.

Yet I feel privileged. Age brings contentment, stability and confidence to many of us. We have experienced the ups and downs of life. This brings frustration, as we see others (not least politicians) repeating past mistakes, but it also brings a certain wisdom.

The blog enables me to explore new interests and areas. I will continue to write about style, will harry the fashion industry to take notice of the older man and will support young, new or British-made businesses when I can.

Please stay in touch.

    Happy birthday!
Great photograph, btw. Jacket, tie and hankerchief combo belies your years.
Please keep writing - it's an education for us all (even when you thought about wearing red trousers). There are many men who are better dressed today than they would be without you and many women who are pleased about that.

    Hi Grey Fox,

Ops, I'm sorry missed this post. So it's a belated happy birthday.

No, you're not too old to write about men's style at 60. At that age you're still only a youngster, I will be 61 later this month and I certainly don't feel old. There's still so much to do and learn.

By the way, that's a good looking jacket you are wearing, can we have some details?

    Regards
    David

Many thanks everyone - I really appreciate hearing from you.

With regards to the grey herringbone tweed jacket, Sarah Gilfillan of Sartoria Lab and I are preparing a post in which we style the jacket for many formal and informal uses. It's an inexpensive M&S jacket of dubious fit, but we thought we would try to show that even a modest item of clothing can be used as a useful wardrobe staple.

    Thanks again.

    GF x

Age is no barrier to blogging or style, as you so amply demonstrate. That jacket looks great on you. Happy birthday!

Happy Birthday! And please do keep thinking and writing. The perpetually sloppy young bucks (and a few older ones too) could learn a great deal from you.

    Best Regards,

Happy birthday, may you continue to fly the flag for the "older" man. In any case age is a state of mind!

Is someone different at age 18 or 60? I believe one stays the same.

That said, men are like wine - some turn to vinegar, but the best improve with age.

Happy Birthday Grey Fox, you're Fabulous!

Happy Belated birthday. I read your blog with regularity, but this momentous occasion slipped by me. Your youthful outlook and appearance is inspiring for a kid like me (55 soon to be 56). Keep up the great work!

    Happy belated Birthday Grey Fox,

    It is not the number you are, but the number you feel you are inside. My birthday was yesterday, and I turned 59. I think being born a Capricorn is a good thing, and even Kate Middleton is part of our Capricorn club ;-}

It's been a busy time so apologies for belated birthday wishes.

Do not ever stop this blog please. It's truly an inspiration and a hugely welcome find that there's someone else out there who believes that style does not disappear with the passing of some...ahem...years.

    All best wishes

    J
