Everest - inspiration from vintage images

Saturday, 2 February 2013

These images are from a poorly-printed book of photos of the 1952 Everest expedition. The colour is poor quality, but attractive. The mix of faded tones, bright blues, string vests (remember those?) and army surplus clothing convey a powerful period feel. Spot the climber wearing two wristwatches.

What's this got to do with style and fashion? Everything.

This posting has come at a timely moment, I've just started reading a book called "Climbing Everest-The complete writings of George Mallory"

Don't these lot look absolutely wonderful? Yes, everthing.

    Regards
    David

And I'm sure you know the story of the finding of Mallory's body, still clad in its tweed and wool clothing, on Everest by Conrad Anker in 1999.
    Thanks for the comment. GF.
